High gas prices and Charlotte

There’s no doubt that one of the hottest topics in the news right now is the rising cost of gas. While gas prices are slowly starting to see a little relief, it’s obvious people are having to find ways to cope. Charlotte is a perfect example of how high gas prices are making people change the way they live their lives.
On July 30th, CATS reported that the purchase of monthly passes for unlimited use of buses and the LYNX increased by 42%. Mary Newsom at the Observer recently wrote an article on how the stigma is slowly being lifted from riding area buses.
It’s not only public transportation that has been affected by high gas prices: the housing market has changed tremendously, and urban sprawl has slowed down. People are realizing that living closer to where they work is more sensible.
