UNC Charlotte plays Foursquare

UNC Charlotte is the first university to offer promotions campus-wide through Foursquare. You can read more about Foursquare on our post from last week.

From their announcement on the Auxiliary Services blog:

What that means for Foursquare users is this: checking in at UNC Charlotte may yield an electronic coupon to a nearby dining venue. If you’ve reached Mayor status, the coupon has even greater value. What’s more, you could be helping both Foursquare and UNC Charlotte pioneer better, more effective ways to communicate products and services to students and the campus community.”

Jason Keath interviewed Brian Baute (@brianbaute on Twitter), IT Director for Business Services at UNC Charlotte, to find out more. The interview is posted above.

Foursquare sounds kind of like an, indefinite, on-line / social media, scavenger hunt. But with coupons.

    What am I missing?

Ah well, it could be worse. Instead of seeing Foursquare updates, my FB page could still be filled with Mafia Wars garbage!

Any notes from local restaurants and how they are benefiting?

Who doesn’t love indefinite scavenger hunts?

the main benefit most people have reported is being able to see where their friend’s are and to find new restaurants/bars.
