The Charlotte Roller Girls announce their 2013 season

Posted on 11 Feb 2013 by Liz McLaughlin

There’s no doubt 2013 will be an exciting year for the Charlotte Roller Girls (CLTRG), Charlotte’s all-female roller derby team. The Roller Girls will be tearing up their uptown track at The Grady Cole Center for their sixth consecutive home season, running March through October, with their All-Stars season opener taking place on March 23.

Spectators that are new to the sport will find a hard-hitting race, with offense and defense played simultaneously. Jammers (racers) try to pass opposing players to score points. And the blockers do everything (legally) possible to help their jammer through the pack and stop the other jammer from getting through. Seasoned fans will be excited to see that new rules are in place this season: Jammers will take off the same time blockers do, creating an even faster, fiercer start to the bout.

Home Bout Schedule:

Saturday 3/23 CLTRG All-Stars vs. Cape Fear (Wilmington, NC)
Saturday 4/6 CLTRG B-Dazzlers vs. Five 40 (Fredericksburg, VA)
Saturday 5/18 Double Header CLTRG All-Stars / B-Dazzlers vs. Charlottesville Derby Dames
Sunday 6/23 Double Header CLTRG All-Stars vs. Soul City (Augusta, GA) / B-Dazzlers vs. Kannapolis
Sunday 7/21 CLTRG All-Stars vs. Chemical Valley (Charleston, WV)
Saturday 8/24 Double Header CLTRG All-Stars vs. Gate City (Greensboro) / B-Dazzlers vs. Classic City (Athens, GA)
Saturday 9/28 CLTRG All-Stars vs. Appalachian (Boone)

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for Saturday bouts or 3:30 p.m. for Sunday bouts. The team travels around the country in between home bouts, from Louisiana, to New Jersey to Hawaii!
