Charlotte gets weird. (And it’s about time!)

The 12^th Annual No Pants Subway Ride will take place on January 13^th in New York and over 50 cities and 25 countries around the world. The event started as a small prank by NYC based Improv Everywhere and has grown into an international celebration of silliness. The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants do not behave as if they know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants.

For the first time the event is being expanded to Charlotte! Since CLT does not have a subway, consider this as a way for Charlotteans to go sans pants on the Light Rail. Always the innovators and social entrepreneurs, the organizers at The Moxie Project plan to add an altruistic twist to the non-traditional event.

What makes “Charlotte No Pants Light Rail Ride” special is its ties to social consciousness. After participants free themselves of their pants, they have the option of donating them to those in need. The non-profit, Warm Charlotte, will be have their truck on site at the after-party at Common Market to collect pants and any other clothes people choose to donate.

Common Market owner Chuck Barger has been generous enough to provide snacks and discounted draft beers to “The Sans Pants Party.”

Participants should plan to arrive at the Scaleybark Station at 1500 EST this Sunday, January 13^th for further instruction.
