Is Duke Energy making progress with its new logo, unveiled today?

The logo changes from an aggressive red “D” shape to softer blues and greens symbolizing “commitment to sustainability, technology and energy efficiency,” the company said in a statement. It will go into use in early 2013.
Developed internally, the logo borrows the star design of Progress’ logo and adds the swoosh from Duke’s D, “representing energy for the future,” said chief communications officer Ginny Mackin.

I took the new logo and rotated it, and only then could I see a resemblance to the Progress star. But, it’s a stretch! My honest critique is that this logo simply doesn’t work. Maybe it has potential, but it’s not there yet.
Developed internally? Translation: My son/daughter’s in design school. Why don’t we just let him/her do it and save $20K.
Does Duke think that it only needs to change the color of its logo to go green? Why is its 20 year plan to have only 3% renewable energy. That doesn’t sound like commitment to me…
i like the old logo better
