[Updated] Northlake Apple Store to open August 27th

Posted on 8 Aug 2011 by Matthew Tringali

So everyone is abuzz about the new Apple Store opening up at Northlake Mall. I am really excited that I no longer have to drive down to Southpark Mall and fight with traffic just to get help with my computer. However, the big question on everyone’s mind is when do we get to enjoy this new haven for all things Apple in the North of Charlotte?

According to a source from inside the store, who will remain unnamed, it appears it will be opening soon! Apple is looking at a grand opening around August 25th or 26th (updated date below)! This is way sooner than I was expecting, but I am sure no one is going to complain!

UPDATE

According to Apple.com the store will open Sat. Aug 27th. This is right in line to what we originally reported and exactly in the time frame our source gave us. Have fun shopping everyone.

Journalistically this story is little more than here-say. “According to a source” does not inform the reader how credible to make of the statements. Sure the source likely has to remain anonymous to keep their job but if cltblog.com wants to be respected the publisher has to understand how anyone can publish content and cite “a source”.

So be better, cite “a source within Apple’s Retail division” or “a source within Taubman Properties, than manages Northlake Mall” or any of the other supporting organizations (construction firms building out the space, staff hiring/training new employees, etc) that would be involved in opening a new location. Also cite the source’s reliability in previous stories or link to related content that would support Apple opening new stores.

Scott you hit the nail on the head!

I expected the story to have a link to one of the popular Apple news sites (e.g., MacNN, TUAW, etc.) or a reference to http://www.ifoapplestore.com/stores/chronology.html, where you can find tons of info about Apple Store machinations all around the world (including info about a possible, long-overdue, expansion of the SouthPark store )

Not to be nit-picky here, but the term is “hearsay”, as in the act of repeating something after simply hearing someone else say it, rather than doing any additional research. I’m not saying one way or the other whether or not this particular article qualifies as hearsay, but I just wanted to point that out.

Well, yes, it’s here-say, but I can corroborate that those I’ve spoken with in Apple retail locally have said about the same to me.

Here’s a good source: Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement: http://webpermit.mecklenburgcountync.gov/webpermit/default.asp?PossePresentation=Project&PosseObjectId=64068576

    Address: 6801 NORTHLAKE MALL DR
    Unit: 280
    Parcel # 02509125
    Jurisdiction: CHARLOTTE
    Project # 317221 — Apple @ Northlake Mall — Renovation
    Project Created: 03/18/2011
    Project Status: COMPL
Active Holds: City Fire — Occupancy.

So they’re waiting for the Fire Department to inspect the store and approve it for occupancy. That is pretty much the last thing you do before you open the doors.
