New bakery in Charlotte

Have you ever been to Magnolia’s in New York City? It’s a delightful little cupcake shop in the West Village, and completely worth the trip up.

Luckily, you don’t have to fight the airports or highways anymore. Charlotte now has its own little gem: the Polka Dot Bake Shop. It’s located at the intersection of Park and Woodlawn, right next to Sushi 101.

I had the pleasure of meeting the head baker last night by complete chance. She’s an absolute delight, and you can see the passion of her baking just by watching her talk about her creations. The menu is pretty standard, but each day brings a new “Chef’s Choice”. I highly recommend getting that. I had a Cherry Chocolate cup cake recently, and it was exactly what I wanted out of an individually wrapped dessert. With just the right amount of chocolate and a perfectly gooey cherry center, I found my $2.50 well spent. Not to mention, everything in the shop is 100% Kosher.

So, if you’re in the area for some Jason’s Deli or Sushi 101, skip the dessert and head straight to Polka Dot. The owners have succeeded in bringing a piece of Big City life into the Queen City. Or, if you’re planning a party, look them up for a Pull-Apart Cake or a Cupcake Cherry Tree! They’re pretty versatile at Polka Dot, and with a great product to back it up.
