Earth Day events

We’ve been remiss in not talking about the Earth Day events currently going on in Charlotte. Without further ado, here’s the breakdown:

• Today until 3pm: Earth Day Charlotte @ Ray’s Splash Planet
  

  “Earth Day Charlotte is FREE, fun family festival!! The mission of Earth Day Charlotte is to raise awareness by showcasing the diverse ways in which our community is working towards environmental health.”

• Sunday, 12pm — 5pm: Earth Day: Time for Change @ the Schiele Museum in Gastonia
• Tuesday, 6:30pm — 11pm: Exploring Energy @ Catawba Science Center
  

  “In observance of Earth Day 2008, Catawba Science Center in Hickory will present Exploring Energy on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. as part of its Science After Dark program series for adults. Learn about biofuels for your vehicle and energy conservation for your home during workshops at 7 and 8 p.m. Following workshops, there will be a showing of “An Inconvenient Truth” at 9 p.m. in CSC’s Millholland Planetarium. Workshop presenters include Home Energy Solutions of Hickory, Metrolina Biofuels of Charlotte and Foothills Bio-Energies of Lenoir. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina. Cost is $7 for CSC members, $14 for nonmembers. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Come early and explore CSC’s freshwater and saltwater aquarium exhibits. For more information, or to register, call (828) 322‑8169.”

Also, if you’re interested in biofuels — specifically biodiesel — local co-op Metrolina Biofuels (of which I am a part) is having our monthly meeting on Saturday, May 3^rd at Charlotte Energy Solutions. We’ll be cooking on a corn-fueled grill so stop by, bring some food to throw on, and get involved in the future of local energy.
