NYT’s Frugal Traveler weighs in on Charlotte
Posted on 6 Oct 2010 by Justin Ruckman
Great read of an outsider’s perspective of Charlotte, by Seth Kugel of the New York Times’ Frugal Traveler blog.
Mentioned attractions include: NASCAR HoF, Uptown public art, ASC’s walking tour podcast, Levine Museum of the New South, the CATS Sprinter busses, Mac’s Speed Shop, City Sweets Cafe, Penguin, the light rail, Raptor Center, Billy Graham Library, and the South 21 drive-in.
“The Hall of Fame building is Charlotte in microcosm: gleaming and new like the city skyline, it is, as are so many city residents, a recent arrival, opened in May. (…)
Did I get to know the heart and soul of Charlotte in a three-day, two-night midweek visit? Definitely not. Staying the weekend was in order, to check out live music and see the $2-beer bars when they were full rather than virtually abandoned.”
